Easy Closet Upgrades

Fall 2019 One Room Challenge Week 1 Jenron Designs

Easy Closet Upgrades

This week we are sharing our easy Closet Upgrades. We are super excited to be sharing all the details inside of our Owners Suite Closet this season.

This season for the ORC we are sharing some of our Easy Closet Upgrades, which is directly off of our on suite Bathroom that we completed this past Spring. That challenge plus our recent Bedroom Renovation just left us excited to finish up the Owners On-Suite, so now we will be adding to this area to complete it.

WEEK 1     WEEK 2     WEEK 3    WEEK 4   WEEK 5   REVEAL

Just in case you maybe wondering exactly what is the ORC aka, The One Room Challenge, here is the full scoop. This event was started by Linda Weinstein @ Calling It Home and is hosted twice a year, in April and October for the past 16 seasons. The ORC has hosted over 300 interior designers & home decor bloggers, that have joined together in this challenge to makeover one room in their own homes.  The participants have a total of six weeks, from start to finish, to complete a full room transformation. Over 3,500 rooms have been transformed through the One Room Challenge to date, and many spaces have been recognized and featured by several prestigious sites seen here:Thank you to the One Room Challenge Media Partner, Better Homes & Gardens, for your continued support and love for original interior design.

So here are a few of the before pictures as we launch this project for our Owners Closet Upgrade: So I have already had people say ” Jen your closet is really not that bad why is it your focus for the One Room Challenge, on doing a Owners Closet Upgrade?Well my answer is this, even though it may appear organized their are still areas I find hard to live with like the lighting. This closet always seems too dark at most times of the day, and who wants to look like they got dressed in a cave?  Other problem area are my clothes, first of all they need to be gone through and sorted. The shirt rack is a little low and the pant rack is a little high, causing some of my longer pieces to get caught on the hangers. I personally think Ron’s side needs another shelf. I am thinking a shoe rack so he can keep his shoes separate from mine. Not that he has near as many shoes as I do. Honestly he has maybe 6 pairs of shoes that he actually wears, which are his two pairs of UGG dress boots, steel toe work boots, tennis shoes and flip flops. Those boat shoes have not seen the light of day in years and you can just forget any of the other dress shoes too.  If he has to tie them he is not wearing them. I also would  like to get the giveaway basket off of the floor. We use this basket to toss our giveaways in throughout the year.  So if we are getting dressed and notice that something does not fit, or has a hole, or we just don’t like it then we toss it in the basket, no questions asked. We find this method keeps us organized. I am not happy with the mismatched laundry baskets and I would like to see all of them matching. I am thinking maybe a set of rolling baskets to match the elfa shelving.  I would love to get rid of the dry cleaning hangers that are spaced throughout our closet as well.  Although I have already been told by Ron he has no plans of switching over his pressed shirts once they come back from the dry cleaners.  Which pretty well pissed me off, but he explained that they get wrinkled in the process, so why bother having them dry cleaned and pressed…. so I guess I will give him a pass….. this time.As for my side I will be making sure that all my hangers match and just try to turn a blind eye to his closet’s side general direction. I also want to try the Marie Kondo folding technique for my t-shirts and put them all in baskets to get them off the hangers and make more hanging space. The entire folding area will need to be reworked and I want to add the additional baskets we already own to this section of shelving below.  I  also would like to spread out my handbag collection and I am still deciding on whether or not I want to store them in their dusters.  They all have storage dusters which came with handbags when I purchased them. However when we first designed the closet upon moving in I chose to keep them out of the dusters to see the bag and change them more often. Sadly, I now no longer carry a handbag, so my beautiful collection of Burberry, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Tory Burch, Michael Kors, Kate Spade and COACH simply sit on this shelf now gathering dust.  Honestly I should sell them but I do still carry them now on occasions. So I hope you will join us over the next 6 weeks to see how this project progresses. You can also visit all the other contestants via The One Room Challenge  to see other great projects this season.
