Hard Candy Christmas Home Decor Tour

Hard Candy Christmas Home Decor Tour

Happy Holidays everyone it is December, time again for my Hard Candy Christmas Home Tour.

Happy Holidays everyone hope you all are having a wonderful season so far, I know I am. As December has quickly settled in, I wanted to release my Hard Candy Christmas Home Tour. Since most people have probably already decorated at this point, this is really just for sheer entertainment. I know this post is late this season but I have been celebrating my 50th birthday, more to come on that adventure soon….I decided to keep the garland around my front door along with the window wreaths we always do on the front windows. I changed all the ribbon last year to a festive candy cane striped ivory and red ribbon that I purchased at Tractor Supply for 90% off post season. I picked up 6 bolt with 90 yards each, so I had plenty to work with no matter what the plan was going to be. It was perfect to run completely around the entire door and looks just like old fashion ribbon candy, don’t you think? Buying decor up while on sale is a great tip for holiday decorating. All the pros will tell you that we plan over a year out for the following year.  Unfortunately, sometimes we can get thrown a curve ball, we hate that, and I got a few of those past years. This year with the BIG 5-0 looming it kept it clean and simple and everything was planned out and done early.  The Books & Bourbon Library is directly across from the foyer so it would be thee first tree you see upon entry. This is my retro Lenox collectable tree. It is adorned with all of dated annual Lenox ornaments we have collected for 30+ years along with lime green and red ornaments and just a few hard candy style hanging peppermint twists to go with the theme. Across the mantle I added the fur babies candy colored stocking and these great felt bows I grabbed up from a Christmas shopping day at Scottsdale Farms back a few weeks ago. I grabbed those pretty custom designed felt bows and the giant holly berry picks right off one of the display trees; they were just so gorgeous so you know I just had to have them. Funny story as Ron walked around with them, guarding them for me he was asked by every woman their where he had found them…. LOL!In thee dining room I utilized my Tartan Plaid Lenox plates this year which features fruit so of course I added sugared fruit to the sleigh arrangement drawn but the iron reindeer. It could be considered nod to candy variety of fruit I guess, with a healthier twist.I grabbed up all of the velvet poinsettias last season at Hobby Lobby on the 90% off sale and just stored them back for this season. Which I do every year which makes it like shopping in my own basement with new items I love but only payed a fraction of the price for, but be true to yourself don’t just buy it because it is 90% off  you got to love it too. This year I hid Pig in the Poinsettias which I thought was really cute for the dining room as well. Plus the Tartain plaid matched the plates spot on, along with the napkins so it seemed like a no brainer. No to mention everyone is trending in the whole “Ralph Lauren” style for Christmas this year which I find comical at best, because my staircase garland is actually from Ralph Lauren (as in the retail stores actual decor- so no you can not purchase it, perks of being a visual) seen below, and yes I had have had it for years. This year I just added silver bells to it. You can also see our sweet little Zooey in the photo above along with her pet tree, that we put up every year.  We got our girls a Gingerbread house scratchier. I decorated the theater seats with a few embroidered peppermint pillows and and Gingerbreead girl for fun, I snagged those at Ross on clearance this year for $8.99 a piece which was a deal, go on Tuesday for an added Seniors discount. This year we invested in a new 12 foot tree, since our other tree was no longer lighting up in sections after 5 years. I figured we bought it during the pandemic and it was our second tree so it was time to invest again. You can see my Christmas Past years here: 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017

We donated our other tree (which as long as you keep it in the box most charities will accept) This one came from Walmart My Texas House 12FT Grand Spruce Prelit Green Artificial $349. It had 4,000 warm LED lights which I did have to get used to color different because it is still a bit white, white for my taste and not as ivory as I would like, but at least it is not blue white which I hate. My trick is I added 1000 red LED Christmas String Fairy Lights to create a candy cane affect with my silver, red and white theme. This actually neutralizes the overall bright white look of the LED lights and gives a softer glow in the tree which made me very happy. As far a greenery I love it, very lux; and not at all like the cheap green stuff we have had prior; however if you are used to twisting in your ribbon using the branches this is not going to happen with this type of tree. While the branches are strong they are not very bendable so make plans to buy chenille (aka pipe cleaners/wire to secure). I have mentioned we have around 8 trees in our home every year. This is the one in our owners suite. Which I decorated in a gold and white color story this year for my 50th birthday. I call it my Golden Gilded Tree which is just me, and what I wanted to fall sleep under all season. While it does not necessarily fit the house theme, I don’t care because again it really just for me , LOL! I decided to add in extra golden lights to the existing white light to even cast more of a golden glow which is so soothing at night. The way the light reflects on the chandler pendants is magical and I personally love the stag horns in the tree as well. I guess you could say the chandler crystal kind of look like rock candy, and the white snow globes do remind me a bit of divinity which is one of my favorites.

You may not recognize this room anymore as it has undergone a few renovations and changes over the past year. This was the twin guest room which we added a built in Carrara tiled fireplace. We also removed the twin beds and opted for a another king sized bed, and we added our custom, autographed Patrick J. Reynolds angel artwork back to walls which had been in storage for a while. I went with tones of blues and violet, Violet like that big blue berry girl from Willy Wonka, but mainly because it matching the denim colored upholstered headboard, which is the same color as the dust skirt.

The Woodland guest room also got a new slate fireplace as well this year. We removed the faux timber backer board and added in an electric fireplace to this queen room and built out the existing mantle and I added slate tiles. Now every room has a fireplace which was my design goal. Instant heat and ambiance at the flip of switch.    This flocked tree houses my Frontgate collection of ornaments. Since they are breakable and the cats love to eat the flock which is not good for them wee keep this tree behind closed doors.   This is an area we recently finished and has not been photographed in years past for the Christmas home tour, our basement. We have two smaller flocked trees that flank the built in reading nook, that Ron built custom for this window area.      The trees are decorated with faux strands of popcorn garland which is perfect for this man cave/ game room area. It creates a fun youthful vibe and keeps the area comfortable at the same time. The mantle, which we also built ourselves along with the fireplace, has a very craftsman vibe with the wood inlay blocks. So I did not want to cover it with a thick heavy garland. I opted to just put some large bright red bows on either end and swag greenery along the middle.   I even added one last tree to my workshop area, I call her the green Goddess, since she is covered in lux green velvet ribbon and butterflies. Since my floral company is called Butterfly Landings.  You may remember I was going to donate her a few years ago but she was turned down by a local charity, well jokes on you, I kept her. She has a new top and new lease on life; rebirth much like a butterfly. So next time you want me to donate my time or money, you might think twice about looking a gift horse in the mouth. Even Zooey is super happy we keep her and found a sweet little warm cozy spot to curl up under her skirt. My girl loves her some Christmas. The final picture I am sharing is the exterior lights of the house all lit up. While our neighborhood is not one of the biggest light shows to come see we do have some very pretty houses that do some cool stuff. Honestly I think I am grateful that we no longer have the excessive extra traffic and back up that occurs with those. I have heard horror stories, so while I love to celebrate the holidays, the mere fact that neighborhood only has one entrance/exit makes that not a great option for us.
