We have started to move into the main family room which has white charred wood shiplap walls and a DIY carrera marble fireplace that has been featured on a previous post. This area is directly off of my little workshop area which was featured in a the One Room Challenge last year, which makes trying to marry all the these interior design elements together a challenge. Artwork is always a great way to transition spaces and develop style in spaces without having to commit to a dedicated theme in a space that can not be moved. Today we a featuring our beautiful new piece from Canvas Conquest Wall Art which is great because you can constantly move it from room to room to change up any space quickly and easily. So here are a few of my top tips when picking out pieces for your home to get the most out of your artwork:
- Art is subject to the eye of the owner and you should really love it, meaning it could go into any room anywhere and you will always love it.
- Do not just pick trendy pieces that match a space, or themed seasonal pieces you will grow tired of.
- Try to pick pieces that represent you, while you may not have the funds to commission a one of kind hand painted piece; that does not mean you should settle for just anything. Pick a piece that speaks to you. If you like Black and White art, like I do, which shows source of light; try and see if the vendor can print the piece in black and white to make it different.
Think about where you will hang your artwork prior to purchasing. Is it in a transition area? Will it need to mesh a few spaces together? I love this black and white pic of the lakeside dock for that very reason. It gives me the feeling of peace and the gradation of black and white colors is very subdued, so it does not pull focus in the room. It also gives the illusion of depth on a flat pass through wall, which can be a tricky space.I also loved that we had the option of ordering Mist Lake Canvas Print – Five Panel: 59″x39″ / Grayscale in 1 large picture, or divided into 3 or 5 sections, I have chosen the 5 section version. This is a feature that also adds a lot of visual impact to your artwork and makes it stand out. By dividing the picture it also adds a very modern flare to the piece that you see in high end modern Art Galleries.
Replication is the sincerest form of flattery. Not only is this one of the reasons I started a blog, to release all my ideas out into the world, but to share inspirations. I will be the first to tell you that I draw inspiration from everywhere all the time, whether it is subconscious, or I see something very specific and it sends me off down a rabbit hole of creativity.A quick DIY designer tip to save putting holes into your shiplap, above you can see we have bent a standard picture hanging hook to become a slat wall style hook for shiplap. They do make specialty hooks available online you can order that will do the same thing, however you can actually bend existing hooks to work with light weight canvas art.

Absolutely! The layout of your home is probably one of the most significant choices you will ever make regarding your home. Regardless if you live in an apartment, a condominium or a house, the layout of the rooms and how they flow will largely depend on your lifestyle.
These are some great tips. I’m definitely guilty of trying to find art to match the space but given I will likely move, redecorate etc your point makes perfect sense and it’s definitely something to think about in future! Thanks! 🙂
I definitely need new artwork for our family room! Love your piece!
Putting a home together that is cozy and inviting is not my forte! As much as I try to have an eye for beautiful things, it always ends up a mess.
I think your blog is amazing! I hope some of your tips will rub off on me!
Exciting! Good luck with your giveaway!
I’ve learned the hard way that I should first think of where I can place my art before buying. It’s such a simple task yet we can get excited and not think about it. I also liked that you mentioned not to get trendy or seasonal pieces because I feel the same about it. Great tips!
Nice giveaway! Best wishes to everyone entering and happy selection!
