DIY Dollar Store Pumpkin Votives
Hey guys, today I wanted to share a budget friendly and super easy craft with my DIY Dollar Store Pumpkin Votives. These cute glass jars can transition from Halloween to Thanksgiving in a flash.
I know that this is always such a busy time of the year, so when I find an easy DIY that can pull double duty for two or more holidays I feel like I must share it with you all.
This is such an easy DIY, even your kids could do it with a little supervision of the scissors. Plus these little guys are so versatile they can be Halloween Jack O’Lanterns or Thanksgiving Treat Jars. Here are the supplies that you will need to make these cute Jack O’Lantern votives.
Supplies Needed:
- Glass Pumpkin shaped Jars from Dollar Store
- 1 roll of black electrical tape or washi tape
- Scissors
- Votive candles or Tealights for each jar
*Please note that was compensated for this post and. These involve no extra cost to you, but may result in me receiving a small commission – for which I am very grateful! You can view my full advertising disclosure here.
The process is so easy just cut out a variety of triangles, circles and squares from your electrical tape and place unto jars in a Jack O’Lantern pattern. The electrical tape is designed to take heat and is easily removable from glass.
Then add in some votive candles or tealights. I personally like the tea lights that come in a metal cup so it cuts down on the wax spills inside the glass jar. This will allow you to reuse the jars easily. When Halloween is over you can simply remove the electrical tape stickers and throw them away. Easy Peasy, now you have just a basic orange glass jar again.
Now that you are back to square one, here is what you will need for creating Thanksgiving or Fall decorations out of these versatile jars.
Supplies Needed:
- Single bolt of Raffia (also available at Dollar Tree)
- Scissors
- Votive candles or Tealights for each jar, or treats
I used a single bolt of raffia just to add a little bit of fall rustic to the already pretty pumpkin shaped jars. Just tie 4-5 strands of 20″ long raffia around the top of the jar. I just did a simple knot then trimmed the pieces at varing lengths to create a rustic fall look.
I would note, if you wish to use these as treat jars you will want to wash the glass jar and lid prior to this step. Then you can fill them with candy corn & peanuts, chex mix, mixed nuts, buckeyes, fudge or any other fall treats that you like. You can also use them decorate your Thanksgiving Day table, as treat filled favors for your guests. Here are a few of my favorite treat filler recipes for the fall:
- S’mores Mix: chocolate chips, Golden Grahams cereal and marshmallows
- Peanut Butter Lovers: Peanut M&M’s, Peanuts, Chex Cereal, Pretzels, Mini Peanut Butter cups, & Reese’s Pieces
- Fall Puppy Chow: see my recipe’s at Easy Tailgating Ideas
- Fall Mix: Peanuts & Candy Corn- this tastes just like a Payday candy bar
(This is also a great way to use up some of that leftover Halloween candy like, M&M’s or Reese’s Pieces that may still be hanging around the house.)
Another great tip for reusing pumpkins is as table votives to decorate your holiday table. The orange glass creates a beautiful inviting glow and the lid is the perfect way to snuff out your candle when your event is over. This cuts down on the amount of smoke you release into your room. You would be surprised at the build up on your walls that can occur from snuffing candles over time, I know I certainly was shocked. There you go, 3 easy ideas for 1 simple glass pumpkin jar for the fall season, plus we covered cute decor for two holidays. This is such a time saver, and can be a perfect craft to do with the kiddos. All for pennies on the dollar.
