Derby Mint Juleps
Simple Syrup Prep Time
Craft Ice Mold (optional)
Fresh Mint Sprigs, leaves only
muddled, save a sprig for garnish
1/2 cup granulated sugar, 1/2 cup water bring to a boil
Place the mint leaves and sugar or simple syrup into your julep cup or old fashioned glass.
Muddle with a wooden pedestal to dissolve the sugar and release the oil and aroma of the mint. (Gently muddle your mint. The intention is to release the essential oils, not tear the leaves to bits)
Pour in the bourbon
Fill the glass with crushed ice or craft ice and stir well
Garnish with a full mint sprig, after gently mashing the leaves to release the aromatic oils of the mint. Enjoy!
