A Snowy Tartan Plaid Tablescape

You may have seen a few pictures of my A Snowy Tartan Plaid Tablescape in our Holiday Home Tour. Here are a few quick holiday table setting techniques to make your table festive and fabulous for your gathering.

This year my tablescape was completely inspired by my Lenox Tartan Plaid China. This beautiful china was a Birthday & Christmas present from one of my dearest friends, that knew my affinity for Lenox china. Thank you Pat, I absolutely love this set and I am proud to have it adorn my table this year. While the overall theme of my home is the Ski Lodge, I really felt like the plaid was the perfect direction to accentuate that theme. I mean, what says a fancy ski lodge dinner more than plaid napkins, gold ware and faux fur placemats?The luxe faux fur placemats, while not very practical I admit, really do create a beautiful snowy like blanket effect on the table unlike anything I have ever done before. Believe it or not, these were found by my husband while shopping at the Pottery Barn outlet, LOL. When he showed them to me I thought they were pillow covers just in the wrong place, but no they were actually placemats, but they may become pillows at some point, you just never know how crafty I might get.I loved the accent of oranges to the table, almost a historical nod to Christmas past, when oranges were given as presents to kids during the depression era. That’s right kids, my grandparents used to talk about getting oranges in their stocking and being so excited for them. Let us count our blessings as you unwrap those iPhones and iPads this holiday, and compare your “Apples” to oranges, LOL. The centerpiece was developed from pulling the sugared fruits pictured in the dishes so we added apples, pomegranates and golden pears to a cedar and pine table garland. Red velvet poinsettias, winter berries, pine cones and gold holiday ornaments round out the rest of the table along with the featured oranges. I am thinking for holiday place cards, should I need them, I will gather six magnolia leaves from my trees out back and simple write the guests names in a gold script. That can easily be added to the base of the orange and would really make them pop. This is such an easy, day of project you can add at the last minute once your guest list is confirmed, just keep a few gold or silver sharpies on hand.Also this year we added our holiday Edible Advent Cookie Trees to the dining room sideboard. If you missed that post we created a fun countdown to Christmas  with some beautiful baked goodies from my friend Kelli Tucker at Cafe Noms. This was such a fun a delicious way to celebrate the holidays, a cookie a day.As you can see her stunning cookie designs really created a beautiful display for these trees, plus we had a pre packaged sweet to look forward to each day of the holiday season. She also makes beautiful cakes and other pretty baked goodies for your holiday party, if you are looking for something to impress your guests.Also these oranges would also be beautiful DIY to slice and dehydrate into a traditional style ornaments or string garlands as well.
