Cheddar Cheese Crust Apple Pie

A southern delight imagine a cheese straw style crust with a traditional apple pie filling.

Ingredients

  • 4 Granny Smith Apples Cored, Sliced
  • 4 Pink Lady Apples Cored, Sliced
  • 1/2 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 3 Tbls Flour
  • 1/4 cup Orange Juice could substitute lemon juice
  • 1/4 Tbls Nutmeg fresh ground
  • 1 1/2 Tbls Cinnamon ground
  • 2 rolls Pre-Made Refrigerated Pie Crust (you can make your own)
  • 1 Tbls Butter to grease pie pan
  • 1/2 cup Sharp Cheddar Cheese

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees. 
  • Grease pie pan with butter  and place the bottom crust in your pie pan.
  • Toss cored apple slices with orange juice, both sugars, flour, cinnamon and nutmeg.
  • Fill with apples, mounded slightly. Cover with a lattice work crust (see tutorial pictures in post above) Sprinkle with finely shredded cheddar cheese. (The cheese is optional so you can leave it off at this point.) 
  • Bake at 425 degrees 45-60 minutes, until apples are soft. Allow to cool before serving.
