Drink your Flowers? Rosewater Lemonade
For my Valentine’s Day Cocktail Concoction I decided it might be fun to do a cocktail where you drink your flowers, so I am creating a Rosewater Lemonade Spritzer.

I have recently been drawn to revisit the idea of edible flowers and floral extracts to integrating into recipes for special occasions. As a small child I loved to drink Lebanese Rosewater, and that is flavor that I still enjoy to this day. It is a unique flavor and really taste exactly the same way a rose smells only it has been sweetened to taken away the bitter quality. 
Imagine it, the mid 80’s in Atlanta, GA. My family, which aired a bit more on the progressive side, would journey regularly downtown Atlanta to the most amazing little Lebanese Restaurant called Nicola’s.
The owner Nic, a dear friend, would endlessly ply me with one of my favorite drinks on the planet to this day, rosewater. As he would deliver me the beautiful red goblets of sweet rosewater, he would say “A rose for my little rose” which as a small child would tickle me with great delight. I used to frequent Nicola’s restaurant until it closed, and today I still have a glass Rosewater, because nobody made them quite like Nic.
Today I have decided to share a spin off recipe of the rosewater in the form of a rosewater lemonade cocktail. Keep in mind there are several ways to make your own rose syrup. You can purchase hydroponic food grade roses, which are grown only in water, no dirt, and are never sprayed with any type of pesticides. This type of rose petal can then be boiled and reduced down into a rose water extract. I actually did not go down this route, for sake of time. I was simply able to purchase this lovely Nielsen Massey Rose Water Extract from my local gourmet food store.
Now as I mentioned above you can get food grade edible flowers, Gourmet Sweet Botanical offers some great ones. I have added them to water in a large block ice cube tray to create a stunning visual appeal. Let these set up over night for a show stopping addition to your cocktail.
- DESIGN TIP: You can do this process with lots of things besides flowers, to create pretty ice cubes. Perfect for bridal and baby showers. You can also try this with strawberries for a festive Margarita on the rocks, frozen lime slices for a retro Cuba Libre, or grapes for that perfect Sangria.
If you are not very skilled in bar tending, or find yourself short on time, you can actually purchase ready made Rosewater Lemonade at your local grocery store. I do find that if you use the ready made mixers you may still wish to add splash more rose extract and lemon juice to give a fresh vibe. 
Rosewater Lemonade
Grocery List:
- 2 tbsp Lemon juice, fresh
- 3/4 cup Sparkling water (plain or even La Croix Lemon is a great option)
- 1 1/2 oz Vodka (optional)
- 2 tbsp Rose Water Extract
- 1 tbsp Honey
- Splash of Grenadine (for color)
- Add a fun Ice Cube

My fiancee and I were very satisfied when we tried this cocktail, it is more of a summer time drink in my opinion but I am not sure when you originally posted it, it could be a signature drink at the wedding.

Great idea to dress up you basic lemonade, you should repost this into a summer post or a bridal shower post. It is too good to be hidden in Valentine’s Day, lol.

The most obvious ones I can think of are:
*Create her name in roses as wall art
*Use rose petal to create raindrop from a umbrella motif for the shower
*freeze Edible Rose Petals into ice ring or cubes
*Guest Favors-small rose plants (tagged w/watch Rose grow)
*Rose iced cookies/cupcakes (shaped like a bouquet of roses)

Yes roses are edible as long as you have purchase a food grade quality rose free from pesticides you should be fine.

This is so timely! I was out at a brewery yesterday for a meeting! There was a sour with rose hips and a friend asked to sample. The bartender was concerned that the rose hips were going to be too strong for her. She laughed and said “I could eat flowers all day! I am not worried about the rose hips, I’m worried about the sour.” HA!
